About Local Basket
Local Basket is an editorial reference about farmers market produce in Canada. It collects seasonal notes, vendor explanations, and storage guidance in one place, written in plain language and kept current as schedules and growing seasons shift.
The focus is narrow on purpose: what tends to be in season, how to read a market table, and how to keep produce well once it is home. Nothing is sold here, and there are no orders or memberships — the site exists to make a market trip easier to plan.
How the content is prepared
Guides are written from widely available horticultural and food-safety information and from the published schedules of established public markets. Where exact figures are uncertain, the text uses neutral descriptions rather than invented statistics. Each article carries an update date so readers can judge how recent the information is.
Images
Photographs are sourced from Wikimedia Commons under their respective licenses and are credited where they appear. They illustrate general market scenes and produce, and are not endorsements of any specific vendor.
Corrections
If a market's hours have changed or a seasonal note needs revising, the contact form on the home page is the simplest way to send a correction. Reader notes help keep the reference accurate over time.
Useful public references include Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and regional associations such as Farmers' Markets Ontario.
